According to Variety, Relativity Studios is pushing back the release of Masterminds by two weeks. The heist comedy will instead debut on Wednesday, August 19, giving it a jump on a trio of wide releases that open on August 21. The hope is that Masterminds will get a boost from the later August release date. The time of year that historically has been hospitable to comedies such as Tropic Thunder and Superbad. Masterminds stars Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Wiig, Owen Wilson and Jason Sudekis and centers on an armored car driver who is enlisted to help rob a bank. Napoleon Dynamite‘s Jared Hess is directing the picture.
