Earlier this week, it was revealed that Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell had filmed a top-secret surprise for Lifetime’s 25th anniversary. The movie, titled A Deadly Adoption, stars Will Ferrell, who has wanted to do a Lifetime movie for some time, and Wiig as a married couple taking care of a pregnant woman, whose baby they plan to adopt. Their plans become complicated as the dramatic thriller plays out. Then, the day after it was revealed, Entertainment Weekly reported that they aren’t going forward with the TV-movie — because it’s not really a secret anymore.
“We are deeply disappointed that our planned top secret project was made public,” Ferrell said in a statement. “Kristen and I have decided it is in the best interest for everyone to forego the project entirely, and we thank Lifetime and all the people who were ready to help us make this film.”
Now, however, reports say that Lifetime is moving forward with the two hour film as planned, despite reports that it has been scrapped. Seeing as A Deadly Adoption has already been shot and is still set for a summer release, hopefully this was just a ploy to make the project top-secret again. Fingers crossed that we’ll be able to see the sure-to-be hilariously dramatic film on the cable channel this summer.
