The promotions for Girl Most Likely have officially started! Kristen Wiig is gracing the pages of the June/July issue of Harper’s Bazaar magazine, talking about leaving Saturday Night Live, upcoming projects and fashion. It’s a great interview and the black & white-pictures are gorgeous to boot. You can already read the interview in our press archive and be sure to view the photos at the official website. Stay tuned for scans from the magazine coming soon, as well!
Kristen Wiig would like you to know that she looks fabulous for 72 (“73 in August”). And it’s true—she could totally pass for a woman in her 30s. Sitting in New York’s Greenwich Hotel, Wiig is wearing a black minidress, a matching jacket, and flat Repetto boots that make her feet look “freakishly small.” Her hair is back to a reddish color after a stint on the dark side, and following two months in Los Angeles she has something resembling a tan. “Sometimes I tan a little,” she says, “but I’m not like tan.” Then she orders a glass of red wine.
I first met Wiig (provenance of name, Norway; upbringing of person, Rochester, New York) at a movie premiere in 2009. She was then four years into Saturday Night Live, and its undisputed star. We saw each other again at an SNL party, and she was the warmest person there. “A barbecue place, right?” she recalls. “Basically a barn.”
It was two years before Bridesmaids, which she cowrote (with Annie Mumolo) and starred in, and which made almost $300 million at the box office, prompting both a belated realization that “female” comedies could make money and an instant demand for a sequel. It was a proposal that Wiig, despite being offered the world, immediately rejected. “It wasn’t a hard decision,” she says. “We knew during the first one, this was it. We would have made a lot of money if there was a second one, but that’s not my goal in my creative life.”
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) just started to announce their presenters for the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards on Twitter, with Kristen Wiig being one of the first to be revealed! Other presenters announced so far include Will Ferrell, Amanda Seyfried, Jennifer Lopez and Jeremy Renner. The Golden Globes will be co-hosted by Tina Fey & Amy Poehler (so it only seems natural to have Kristen on board as well!) and take place in Hollywood this Sunday, January 13. We will be reporting to you live with news, photos and videos from the show. Be sure to follow us on Twitter to see the updates first!
I have – insert finally – added the scans from inside the Comedy issue (January) of Vanity Fair. Kristen appeared as Cher in the magazine, alongside co-stars and friends including Maya Rudolph, Amy Poehler, Ben Stiller, Paul Rudd, Melissa McCarthy and more. Kristen Wiig channels Cher, Ben Stiller does his Sonny alongside Chris Rock, doing a Nipsey Russell thing, and Jerry Seinfeld, decked out in a Nehru jacket, on the cover of Vanity Fair’s January issue! It’s the magazine’s first ever comedy issue, guest-edited by Judd Apatow. Funny people like Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Melissa McCarthy, Paul Rudd, Will Ferrell and more can be seen on two other covers for the issue. The comedians also contribute, write, and pose for a 19-page portfolio inside the magazine.
Click on the preview to the left to see Kristen’s shared cover in full size. Stay tuned for scans from the magazine, which will be added as soon as the issue hits the newsstands. Which is your favorite cover out the three?
As mentioned in earlier posts, Kristen Wiig is featured in ELLE’s Women in Hollywood 2012 celebration. This means that she’s also gracing the pages of the magazine with some brand-new, stunning pictures, as well as a great article to boot! Scans have been added to our photo gallery. Enjoy!
ELLE magazine just announced the stars of it’s 19th annual Women In Hollywood Issue.
