Kristen Wiig joins ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ revival

Another new project has been announced for Kristen! Along with Chris Pine, Jon Hamm and Jason Schwartzman, Kristen Wiig has joined the star-studded cast of Netflix’s limited series Wet Hot American Summer. She is signed on for either a guest starring or recurring role in the eight-part series, a Netflix spokeswoman confirmed to TheWrap. The series is based on the 2001 film of the same name, which has since garnered a cult following. They will join many of the original cast, including Bradley Cooper, Janeane Garofalo, Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Elizabeth Banks, Christopher Meloni and David Hyde-Pierce.

Hamm is expected to play a secret spy; Wiig, a preppy counselor at rival Camp Tigerclaw, while Pine’s character is described as “mysterious.” Michael Showalter and David Wain — who wrote the movie — will also helm the series. Wain will direct and Showalter will serve as showrunner. The original film was set on the last day of a fictional Jewish summer camp in 1981, while the series is set on the first day.

Kristen Wiig to star in ‘Ghostbusters’ reboot

Here’s a fantastic piece of news! According to The Wrap (and pretty much all the news-sites on the Internet) Kristen Wiig will star in Sony Pictures’ all-female reboot of the iconic Ghostbusters!! She’ll play one of the four leads along with Melissa McCarthy and Saturday Night Live cast members Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. Paul Feig is attached to direct, which would mark a Bridesmaids reunion for him, Wiig and McCarthy. Feig himself tipped off social media to the potential stars by tweeting a photo of all four ladies.

Plans for the franchise first surfaced in October, when Feig said he wanted to stay faithful to the beloved original movies starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and the late Harold Ramis. Kate Dippold wrote the screenplay for the reboot of the iconic comedy, and filming is expected to begin this Spring. The new Ghostbusters will be released on July 22, 2016, Feig tweeted.

Another year has come to its end, and today is the last day of 2014. What a year it’s been for Kristen Wiig – not only has she been out promoting three new projects (The Spoils of Babylon in January, Hateship Loveship in April and The Skeleton Twins in September), but she’s also been busy filming four movies set for release in 2015. This didn’t stop Wiig and Annie Mumolo to write their follow-up to the Oscar-nominated Bridesmaids script, which Kristen is set to direct next year as well! To top all of this, Kristen received her seventh Primetime Emmy-nomination for her hilarious work in The Spoils of Babylon, and a Critics Choice Awards-nomination for her phenomenal work as Maggie in The Skeleton Twins.

KristenWiig.org also had a fantastic year, with thousands and thousands of new and returning visitors. I’m so very grateful for your continued support, comments and contributions, it really means the world. So thank you, thank you for 2014.
